Leaf stem of Amorphophallus variabilis x A. decus-silvae. This is a young leaf stem, with a smooth surface, and about 5cm in diameter. In the rain forest, there are many insects and animals looking for soft young plant growth to eat, and this camouflage mimics an old, lichen-covered tree stem, which may possibly help to protect it from being eaten.
